BLUF

The BJJ influence across SOF traces back to the 75th Ranger Regiment and the origin of MACP (see the Army page). Beyond that, much of what’s public is commercial.

SOCP

The Special Operations Combatives Program (SOCP) is a commercial program founded by Greg Thompson, a former pro MMA fighter. He trained an SF unit at Fort Bragg, worked on the Federal Air Marshal combatives program at FLETC Artesia, and launched SOCP fully in 2007. It blends BJJ, MMA, edged weapons, and pistol and knife retention in kit. The company’s claims about embedded instructors and “program of record” status are not independently verified. (ussocp.com)

Not verified

  • A 2026 SAM.gov market-research notice for Fort Campbell reportedly sought a lead instructor with a 4th-degree BJJ black belt and SOCP/MACP credentials. That’s market research, not an award.
  • Krav Maga shows up among MCMAP’s influences and in a 2008 CGSC thesis (in the library). No current verified SOF Krav Maga program or contract was found.
