FBI plans no-bid contract with UFC to train agents in defensive tactics

BLUF: The FBI wants a one-year, sole-source contract with the UFC to train special agents in defensive tactics and MMA: striking, grappling, weapon defense, and ground control.

  • The sole-source justification was posted Sep 30. Responses are due Oct 15.
  • The FBI says it will do market research before awarding a competitive, long-term contract.
  • It builds on a March 2026 UFC seminar at Quantico.
  • Critics, including former HRT defensive-tactics instructor Rob D’Amico, call it a favor to Dana White.

From the corner: Teaching cops and agents to fight is a different job than teaching soldiers. Use-of-force law, retention, and de-escalation drive the curriculum. Sport skills transfer, but the rule set doesn’t. Worth watching who writes the program of instruction.
